You Should Own Your Google Info

Written by Sellr Team March 14, 2017

What Do You Do?

Google. It’s synonymous with searching. When you want to know the best pair of shoes to buy—Google it. When you need to know how late your doctor is open—Google it. And when your customers want to know where to get a bottle of chardonnay—they Google it.

So What?

This information is important. Did you know that you can control some of the information search engines like Google, Bing, and Yelp show about you? Claiming your business on search engines allows the person who knows your store best to make sure the information shared is correct—that person is you or one of your employees.

If you don’t claim your listing, search engines will crowdsource information about your store, using information provided by anyone who writes something about your store to report things like your location, store hours, and website.

Yikes.

What Can You Do?

In order to own your Google and other search information, you need to claim your business listings. Don’t worry. It’s not difficult. In fact, we will be hosting a webinar Thursday, March 16 to show you how to claim your listing, what information to use, and best practices for making sure the information in your search results continues to provide the right message to your customers. You can register for the webinar by following this link: https://getsellr.com/sellr-webinars.

What Else Can You Do?

Claiming your listings is a great first step in making sure you are in control of your search results. Search engines change the way they gather information so once you have your business claimed, you should check and correct it on a regular basis. Search engine optimization, or SEO, is a series of activities you can use to increase the likelihood of your store being found in what Google calls the Zero Moment of Truth—the time when your customer knows what they want and are researching where to find it. Spoiler alert, keeping your website updated with fresh content is the best way to earn a place in top search results.

Stay Ahead of Your Competition

Don’t let the information provided to customers be left to the discretion of your customer or worse, word of mouth. Download our guide and claim your listing so you can own the results your customers see when they are looking for you.
